THEY COME IN WAVES

There really isn't anything negative I can say about this band other than they should play more live shows so I can lose my mind! They Come In Waves play ambient melodic hardcore. This band can go from sounding like The Appleseed Cast to Modern Life Is War within a couple of seconds. It's a great blend and it makes their music come across very emotional and epic. They released a split this year with Great Reversals and also this year re-released their Transience ep with a new vocalist. If you haven't listened to either releases I highly recommend you start. This is one of the best bands to come out of Michigan.

AGES

WOW!!! This caught me completely by surprise! Ages full length "Sleep On It" manages to blast through 14 minutes of fast pissed melodic hardcore with a hint of pop punk without sounding awkward. Think of Killing The Dream meets Title Fight only faster and younger. Its awesome!

NEW VENICE

The first time I saw this band I was very stoked. Mainly because they reminded me of two of my favorite bands of all time (Glassjaw & Hopesfall). New Venice is from East Lansing, Michigan. They have only released four songs to date but are aiming to release a full length in late 2011. If you are into bands Like Glassjaw, Hopesfall and Thursday do not sleep on this band. You can download their two EPs for free from their bandcamp page.

CLOCKWORK

This is hands down the best demo I have heard so far this year! Clockwork's self titled demo sounds like it came straight out of the 90's. It's a great blend of fast/melodic punk-rock. Every instrument on this demo is played very well. The drums and vocals stand out the most for me though. The band consists of members of other active Michigan bands like Under Anchor, Face Reality and Shades of Red. They have played only a handful of shows so far but I am really looking forward to what this band puts out next.

HISDAYHASCOME

I have only been able to see this band in their hometown but have been blown away at their live performance and how insane their crowds can get. HISDAYHASCOME play fast upbeat punk rock with catchy melodic lead guitar parts and slightly raspy vocals. Their record "Where I Belong" is probably the most solid record that has been released off of Either /Or Records to date. They are some of the nicest and most caring people I've ever met and they also help book DIY shows in their area. They are currently booking a tour with Crucial Dudes for this summer 2011. I really suggest you to catch one of their shows. You will not be disappointed.

GREAT REVERSALS

Great Reversals are honestly one of my favorite hardcore bands to come out of Michigan. Their 2009 demo was a refreshing change to the modern day hardcore approach. After seeing this band live my appreciation for this band has only grown more. They are a genuine group of guys who talk about real life situations/struggles. They just recently released a split 7" with They Come In Waves which has some of the most emotional and sincere lyrics I might have ever read. The split is definitely one of my favorite releases of 2011. If you're a fan of 90's hardcore bands like Trial, Bane, and Unbroken Be sure to check this band out immediately!
